Crickets Song

by Clifford Kapono

Somewhere in the dark, in the early morning hours

While the crickets were still singing

I felt you were gone

Looking at the wrinkled sheets were you lay

Your impression was no longer warm and

I felt you were gone

Crying out for you’re my voice is still

Words that flowed so easy before now are silent

I felt you were gone

Desperately try to remember your face

Your warm smile and quiet eyes have vanished

I felt you were gone

I don’t know where to put your memory

There is no one to attach this fleeting feeling to

You are distant somewhere out beyond my touch

My sense of you is gone

I never thought I could loose you

I thought I would love you forever

I ripped my heart apart for you

But I realize you are gone

The crickets continue to sing their song

Drowning out your memory

My mind is empty of you

I can let go now
