Oh Rats!

by Frankie Lassut

People seem to have this hatred for rats. It's a special hatred though, probably due to the fact that the last time they were here, they died in the great plague. It can also be belived that Hameln, in germany...you know it as Hamelin, was a bit of a shithole too, at the time of the Pied Piper, which is why there were so many rats. iI is also written that the Pied Piper was also a kiddie fiddler and murderer, and they found the bodies in the woods after he killed them; probably disgruntled by the council officials not wanting to pay him (nothing new there then). So, and as an early conclusion, rats are there because humans make it dirty enough for them to thrive on our waste? But, human nature is to act like pigs (sorry pigs) and then find someone to blame when the shit hits the fan; and, we're good at it.

I heard a guy on the radio a few months ago. He was a pest control expert. he'd been into an old sewer, and had been scared by the size of the thousands of rats he saw... and then he told the listners. "They are very well fed creatures, and thrive on the takeaway food dropped on the streets by humans." (he didn't use the word brain dead, or ignorant...so I just did). So, we 'hate' rats, and we 'curse' them, and we panic when we see them close to us...so, why do we feed them so well?

I'm a photographer, and I'm writing a little book called Flooral Art, and I'm walking the streets of Coventry, taking pictures of litter... but, the number of bins I've seen turned over, and carrier bags of rubbish that people have just thrown on the street...full of rotting food. Then, the little furry human refuse cleaners move in, which is really an alarm bell for us...and we curse them, the dirty, disese ridden bastards! "hello hello, is that Sent-to-kill!? I have seen a rat on our street, please send the Pied Piper, quickly!

Look in the mirror first my friend...

Ps. And then they want to make refuse collections fortnightly instead of weekly?

Thank God for rats, or, how would we know we're killing ourselves with our own filth? nothing changes)
